Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson

A Murder Mystery novel, written as a homage to the genre, with nothing but passion and love. It’s a novel about a novel about novels. Confused? Don’t be. It is the finest piece of writing you will encounter.

I am obsessed with movies and shows and often quote fictional characters , even act like them in real life. The story of the book is kind of similar. The book however focuses on obsession with the crime fiction genre. I found that to be quite relatable. But what if someone with bad intentions, uses his knowledge of fiction literature to commit heinous crimes as a love letter to the genre?

Malcolm, the narrator, runs a bookstore in Boston, is in love with books not more than any other book lover I know. One day an FBI agent walks into his store and interrogates him about a blog he had written years ago- “Eight Perfect Murders”. Where he lists the perfect murders committed by fictional characters in his favourite novels, where the murderers never get caught.

I know we are not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover or title. But c’mon! Which book lover could not read this one immediately? I did too and it was great! Beautifully written, equally intriguing and engaging throughout. With great revelations and twists and turns, almost hard to catch up. No one is spared from the reader’s eyes and everyone is a suspect. Exactly how it should be in a murder mystery ! The emotions of all the characters so thoughtfully explained, along with the description of the characters. It might force you to start making notes. I did. You can feel the true love for books in the novel. The best part is the way things are revealed in the book. Just how an introvert would like it, slowly after building trust. Not so many insightful quotes though, so you won’t be focused too much on highlighting stuff. But, you will be gripped throughout. Astounding take on the psychology of emotions and the pain of being a human. Just relished every second of this amazing novel!

Get your hands on it now book lovers and if you are not one, you might be metamorphosed.
