A gift for myself

I was watching one of my favourite shows called “This is Us” today and sadly it is ending. Todays’s episode was the one before the series Finale and SPOILER ALERT, one of the main characters dies. The whole episode is about them navigating through their memories, and saying goodbyes, basically the episode where you can’t keep yourselves from crying. But, this episode does one better. It devastated me! And it does it so beautifully that I had to journal about it to process it all. But, the one thing I really wanted to share is a small moment during the episode. Towards the end, the character that is dying says- “It’s all really sad, isn’t it, the end?”

The character (already dead) acting as a guide in this illusionary trip down memory lane says:

“Oh I don’t know! If something makes you sad when it ends, it must have been pretty wonderful when it was happening.” And continues to say,

So much of the world is sad, because everything dies. If you step back, step back and look at the whole picture. If you are brave enough to allow yourself the gift of a really wide perspective. If you do that, you will see that the end is not sad. It’s just the start of an incredibly beautiful thing.

So much of our lives is about small and big experiences, the ones that I call dots. Our life is all about creating these dots. Living life one moment at a time, happy or sad. Going with the flow and tackle through the rough edges along the way. However, it only makes sense when you widen your perspective and look at the big picture, connecting those dots. That is what gives life a meaning.

This is the Gift I give myself today. A gift of Patience and Hope to live wholeheartedly.
